Caring for Your Dentures

Whether you have just obtained new dentures or are a veteran wearer, you should know—and use—the basics of denture care. Your Longwood, FL, dentist, Dr. Ilya Freyman, crafts high-quality dentures and can show how to extend their usefulness and your oral comfort and function.

Today's dentures

The world of dental prosthetics has a long and heralded history. In recent years, dentures have improved dramatically in fit and stability with the advent of implant-supported dentures. Along with partial dentures, conventional dentures, and immediate dentures, these artificial teeth restore smiles for millions of people in the US alone.

Cision PR Newswire reports that denture wearers can experience pain, poor digestion, speech issues, and problems with interpersonal relationships if they don't have the right kind of dentures. Improper care just makes matters worse. That's where your Longwood, FL dentist comes in.

As a former lab technician with extensive expertise in dental prosthetics, Dr. Freyman is dedicated to optimizing his patients' denture experiences. He ensures they have the proper denture along with the proper fit and care plan.

Caring for your dentures

It's not difficult—it just takes consistency and attention to detail. Here's how denture care works:

  1. Always take out your dentures at night to allow your mouth to rest. Store them in water and/or a denture soak to keep them clean and to avoid warping.

  2. Gently scrub your dentures with a non-abrasive paste and soft brush to eliminate plaque and tartar build-up. Brush your mouth, and make sure to reach remaining teeth, gums, tongue, and the roof of your mouth. This freshens your breath and stimulates circulation.

  3. Rinse your dentures with clear water after you clean them and before putting them into your mouth.

  4. See Dr. Freyman every six months for an oral cleaning and check-up. He'll inspect your dentures for wear and fit, and if needed, realign them. Dentures do need periodic relining or replacement as they (and you) age, says the Cleveland Clinic. A proper fit avoids the development of sore spots and infections on the gums

  5. If your denture becomes poor fitting, cracked, or chipped, do not repair it yourself. Dr. Freyman will take care of it.
